Saliva is an important part of a healthy body. Saliva is a clear liquid produced by the salivary glands in the mouth. The parotid, submandibular, and sublingual salivary glands contribute to 90% of total saliva secretions, while minor salivary glands contribute to the remaining 10%.
Saliva is mostly made of water. But saliva also contains important substances that the body needs to digest food and keep the teeth strong.
Saliva is important because it:
*Keeps mouth moist and comfortable
*Moistens food and aids in compacting food into a bolus
*Dissolves food chemicals so they can be tasted
*Fights germs in mouth and prevents bad breath
*Helps keep dentures securely in place
*Has proteins and minerals that protect tooth enamel and prevent tooth decay and gum disease
On average, a healthy person produces between 0.75 and 1.5 liters of saliva each day. Saliva production peaks when a person is eating and is at its lowest during sleep. A dry mouth can occur when the salivary glands in mouth don't produce enough saliva. This is often the result of dehydration, which means the body doesn’t have enough fluid to produce the saliva you need.

What does the term "diet" mean? The definition of a diet as the complete oral consumption of nutrients and non-nutritive substances is comprehensive yet lacks specificity. It is defined by the typical composition and allocation of nutrients and foods ingested by an individual or a specified group.

Human body fat
Fat is a normal component of the human body that is stored in adipose tissue. The only body measurement that directly calculates the relative composition of the body and present a measure of fitness level, regardless of height and weight, is body fat percentage (% BF). Widespread application of Body Mass Index (BMI) affords a measure which enables comparison with the overweight of individuals of different heights and weights.
Fat and fat-free mass have very different energy densities:
• Fat: 39.4 MJ/kg
• Fat-free mass: 3.7 MJ/kg
All fat is not bad. Fat is very important for cells, it keeps the body warm, and it also cushions the body and provides comfort, such as when the body sitting. However, too much fat can be a risk factor for obesity. An ideal body composition is one with healthy amounts of fat mass and lean mass, or muscle. The average body fat of a healthy person is about 10 percent to 15 percent for men and 15 percent to 25 percent for women.
Why body fat is so important?
*Fat is an insulator; it helps the body to adapt to heat and cold.
*Fat acts as a shock absorber; it can help protect the body organs and bones from injury.
*Fat helps body use vitamins effectively.
*Fat is stored energy that is available when human body needs it.
*Fat, in reasonable amounts, helps to look the best, thus increasing the feelings of well-being.
Accurate determination of body fat could provide clinically useful guidance for physicians to assess disease risks in patients with obesity and optimize preventive or therapeutic remedies for these patients.

Why is it so important of eating healthy food?
Anybody eat healthy food, his body will be healthy, too. Food is the fuel that gives him energy. Healthy food gives human body the energy for mending everything, from cuts and grazes to broken bones.
Depending on the lifestyle, the key to healthy diet is eating right number of calories; the calories requirement for an average men and women is 2500 and 2000 calories respectively.
Eating healthy food is extremely crucial to maintain good health to lead a long life that is free from illnesses. They are the cornerstone of improving the quality of life. Human body needs food for energy but also needs the essential nutrients that healthy food provides to function properly.
There many reasons why human must have to eat healthy balanced meals on a day to day basis: heart health, central nervous system, digestive system, gut health, liver health, mental health, immune system, hair health, teeth health, bone health, skin health, muscle building, aging better, hormonal balance, etc.
For example a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can:
*Reduce chances of having heart attack or stroke
*Lower blood pressure
*Can avoid constipation and painful intestinal aliment called diverticulitis
*Can guard against two common aging-related eye diseases: cataract and macular degeneration

The Importance of Adequate Fiber Intake
The Importance of Adequate Fiber Intake
The importance of adequate intake of fiber to the improvement of health is demonstrated by some of the physiologic effects exerted by its various components. Particularly noteworthy are the hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effect of soluble fiber. Slowing the absorption rate of carbohydrate can be very helpful to the diabetic in regulating blood glucose levels and lowering serum cholesterol levels presently appears to have significant benefit in the prevention of atherosclerosis.
Adequate fiber intake has been implicated in control of various gastrointestinal disorders, including diverticular disease, gallstones, irritable-bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, and constipation. It was suggested that fiber, especially wheat bran, is effective in the treatment of constipation; but evidence for the effectiveness of fiber in control of the other diseases seems equivocal. Nevertheless, populations with high fiber intakes have a lower incidence of these gastrointestinal disorders.
A generous fiber intake appears to be beneficial to some individual in their efforts at weight control. The bulk provided by fiber may have some satiety value, so that high fiber foods possibly reduce the hunger pangs associated with caloric restriction while simultaneously somewhat reducing nutrient utilization. The anti-toxic effect of fiber is a physiologic role often overlooked. Results of studies on experimental animals, particularly growing rats, have shows the protective effects of selected fiber supplements against a variety of toxic agents.
